Pet Trusts, Wills & Probate
One basic reason for wanting a will is that if you die without a will or “intestate” the estate can get your assets when no relatives can be found. Write a will!! And don’t let the state decide who gets your money, property, and your pets. However, there are situations where probate court procedures are necessary to transfer assets from decedent’s estate to beneficiaries.
Special Needs Trusts/Disability Benefits
You must plan carefully if you want to leave money to a loved one with disability. Otherwise, you could jeopardize your loved one’s ability to receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Medicaid benefits. For example, by setting up a “special needs trust in your will, you can avoid some of these problems.
